چکیده

We consider time-dependent flow problems discretized with higher order finite element methods. Applying a fully implicit time discretization or an IMEX scheme leads to a saddle point system. This linear system is solved using a preconditioned Krylov method, which is fully parallelized on a distributed memory parallel computer. We study a robust block-triangular preconditioner and beside numerical results of the parallel performance we explain and evaluate the main building blocks of the parallel implementation.

A robust, colocated, implicit algorithm for direct numerical simulation of compressible, turbulent flows

A non-dissipative, robust, implicit algorithm is proposed for direct numerical and large-eddy simulation of compressible turbulent flows. The algorithm addresses the problems caused by low Mach numbers and under-resolved high Reynolds numbers. It colocates variables in space to allow easy extension to unstructured grids, and discretely conserves mass, momentum and total energy. The Navier–Stoke...

Evaluation of two lattice Boltzmann methods for fluid flow simulation in a stirred tank

In the present study, commonly used weakly compressible lattice Boltzmann method and Guo incompressible lattice Boltzmann method have been used to simulate fluid flow in a stirred tank. For this purpose a 3D Parallel code has been developed in the framework of the lattice Boltzmann method. This program has been used for simulation of flow at different geometries such as 2D channel fluid flow an...

Preconditioning Strategies for Models of Incompressible Flow

We describe some new preconditioning strategies for handling the algebraic systems of equations that arise from discretization of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We demonstrate how these methods adapt in a straightforward manner to decisions on implicit or explicit time discretization, explore their use on a collection of benchmark problems, and show how they relate to classical tec...

Implementation of D3Q19 Lattice Boltzmann Method with a Curved Wall Boundary Condition for Simulation of Practical Flow Problems

In this paper, implementation of an extended form of a no-slip wall boundary condition is presented for the three-dimensional (3-D) lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for solving the incompressible fluid flows with complex geometries. The boundary condition is based on the off-lattice scheme with a polynomial interpolation which is used to reconstruct the curved or irregular wall boundary on the ne...
